Many times when we go out to get exercise, we put on sunglasses to keep the sun out of our eyes. In our best effort to keep out the sun, we are denying ourselves of the UV rays that stimulate the production of vitamin D, something that many people are deficient in. Almost all glasses or contact lenses block out UV rays that are blocking out that extra benefit of the sun through our eyes. The sun also helps with our sleep cycle. While UV rays are absorbed through our skin, we also get it through our bare eyes.
“Wisdom is good with an inheritance: and by it there is profit to them that see the sun.” Ecclesiastes 7:11
“Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun:” Ecclesiastes 11:7 Of course, we know not to look directly at the sun, being temperent in all things including sun exposure, and only at appropriate times when we take off the glasses or contacts for vitamin D production. We may also in our best efforts to serve God, block out His full benefits by the entertainment we have. The Bible is clear that everything we do must glorify God. We all want God’s full benefit, so let’s put away the entertainment that’s causing a barrier.
Our Friday thought.
“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy”. Exodus 20:8 Sometimes in our best efforts to worship God, we stop at this verse and say we are remembering the Sabbath, but as we read on, we clearly see what day is defined as the Sabbath and how it should be kept. Verses 9-11.
“Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.” Revelation 22:14
Let’s not block out the blessing of making it to heaven by intentionally following a day of worship that is not found in the bible. Thank God it’s almost the Sabbath. May God continue to bless and keep us today. God is good ALL the time AND He’s coming soon! I can’t wait! Are we ready?
